I was replacing the impeller on my 1999 50hp Merc when 1 of the 4 stainless steel bolts holding the impeller housing on broke off. The bolt broke off clean at the head leaving approx 1/2in inside. It's flush at the top so I couldn't get a grip on it to try and get it out. So 2 questions...
1. Should I try a drill out bolt remover myself (I've been told stainless is hard to drill) or should I take it to a shop to have it removed? If I take it somewhere what might it cost?
2. Once I get it out, does anyone know where I can get replacement bolts? I've looked a little online without much luck.

Thanks!

Re: Broken water pump bolt

go to a hardware store and get a small set of bolt extractors, easy to use. bring one of the good bolts with you and show them what you need
