Sure, leaf springs break all the time. Usually they get all rusty and look like that have a kink starting.

Replace it with the same kind or maybe a bit heavier. They are available on the web at east coast marine and other places.

Northern Tool should have replacement springs…probably a good idea to replace both sides at the same time…

Gee, Jimmbo, all three leaves broke, and they are not even rusty. I would suggest you hit something real hard or the spring was undersized.

I was able to tow it home(80km), in hindsight, a very stupid thing to do. Next day, I used about a 1/2 dozen very large Tie Wraps to secure the axle, I headed for the Dealer, and less than a mile later, I heard pieces hitting the road. I kept going in case behind me there was someone with a piece embedded in their Radiator. I got to the dealer, and abandoned the boat. Went back to where I had heard the spring come apart, and found the broken parts next to the curb. Next day the spring was replaced. Two weeks later. I was getting ready to go to the lake, and I noticed the other side of the trailer sagging. So back to the dealer, and I unhooked. The Owner saw me inside and asked it I was going to the lake on that lovely day. I said I had been been planning to, but that the other Spring had other Ideas, so I was dropping the boat off again. This was a Saturday, about 1pm. He looked at the Clock, and said, "don't worry, you will be boating today". He had the service department, rob a Spring off of a new Trailer in Inventory, to replace the latest bent one. The Trailer was out of Warranty, but the next year Manufacturer replaced, both the Springs and Axle. I asked what the difference in price between the Spring Axle and the Torsion Axle. I was told about $100. I had them install a Torsion Axle, and I will never go back to Springs.

Sounds like a manufacturing defect. Leaf springs have been around since before the model T. On boat trailers in salt water they rust pretty quickly, but usually give visual warning before they fail. Of course, you do need to look 'em over...

The trailer manufacturer was replacing the replacements, but I opted for the Torsion.

Does anyone lube their leaf springs? I hit mine with silicone spray to help resist the water and rust, but Im sure there is a better product out there.

I spray mine with T9 Boeshield, more for corrosion prevention that lubrication.
