this is why I have Boat US towing insurance including trailer break down coverage, well worth it, even though I'm fully capable of changing trailer axle myself, wouldn't want to do it with the boat on the trailer. Upgraded this one from a 3500lb axle to a 6000lb axle this past September. Got the axle from Champion trailers they made it to my specs (87" hub face dimension and 70" spring center dimension). Galvanized, drop axle with saddle center.

Still waiting on a quote. I’ll call again tomorrow and hopefully they will have a quote. I’m very close to going and getting it with a trailer. It would just be so nice if they could fix it and I could go get it and it would be done
Sorry that you're going through this, and all I know about your particular circumstance is what you've written here. There are many considerations in play when trying to figure out just writing the check for the fix versus DIY.

Based on what you wrote, it looks like you are going through a lot of trouble to save just a few hundred bucks. I personally don't think you're being gouged on the axle by that distant shop. You're probably not getting the "Friends and Family" rate, but it doesn't seem outlandish. Now you're talking about retrieving it with a trailer. Some other considerations:

- Are you incurring storage fees at the distant location? Will those be payable when you retrieve the boat? Will any storage fees be "waived" if you have them do the work?

- Every day that passes without a decision is another day gone.

If it was me, and it's not, I'd just write the check and get the boat when it's done.

This situation stinks, and it could happen to many of us. Good luck.

at this stage in the game, I would get a flat bed trailer, winch the whole thing onto it and bring it home and change the axle myself.
