Does anyone know what the GAP is between the flywheel and the coil magnet?
I removed it to clean some rust but failed to measure the gap. I'm assuming it's suppose to be a specific gap. I used a .008 feeler gage to set it.
Not sure if this is a good starting point or not.

The usual way to set that gap is to take a business card (a piece of folded printer paper will work as well) and put it between the coil and flywheel where the magnets are. Loosen the coil screws and it will attract to the magnets. Than tighten the coil screws and remove the business card. It will work perfectly. Been doing that forever myself. JMHO

Actually I found a chart online that indicated .006 to .010.
I had guessed at .008 before I found that info.
It must be correct since the motor starts and runs very well.

Seriously, the actual gap spacing in those engines means so little in the ignition setup. Most any close gap that allows the flywheel to spin freely will work. The magnet flux lines reach out a lot further then a mere few thousandths of an inch. If the difference between .008" and .020" makes the engine not crank, you have bad ignition components for sure. JMHO and years (many decades) of experience.
