break in help

I will be rebuilding my 1979 115hp Evinrude this weekend and would like to know what break in I can do in the driveway using muffs, and what else once on the lake. I would like to do as much as possible in my driveway. I have no tach, and no longer have a timing light. (That reminds me...will I need one to set timing?)

yes you will. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=228183 use double oil, run 25:1 for atleast the 1st 10 hours.

Thanks. As for the break in in the driveway...I've heard to run it at 2200 rpm for an hour...is that correct? Also, what is the spark tester for in the WOT timing procedure? Can a grounded plug be used?

you want the plugs out. never run over 1500 on muffs, can cause a runaway motor, take only disconnecting fuel, can shut it down.

you can run it up and down 600-1500.
