I have a 1996 Bravo Three sterndrive that has sticky gear selection. And when I say sticky, I mean can't get it into forward and have a hard time in reverse. I replaced the lower shift cable first (I've already ruled out the upper cable). When I had the sterndrive on the ground, I was able to move linkage between gears (harder to get in reverse than forward), the same as it was while it was installed. I replaced the cable and got it all back together and now its hard to select either gear. This post may be premature as I spent most of the evening doing the cable replacement and I'm a little frustrated, but I haven't put oil back into the drive yet.......could this be my problem? Or is there something else to check?

I did pull off the cover at the back of the sterndrive (the one with three bolts) to check out the linkage....looked OK.

Please....any help would be greatly appretiated.

Thanks

Re: Bravo Three Sticky gear selector

I've heard that Bravo drives should only be shifted while engine running. Could be you won't have the problem when you have the engine running.
