Hi there, i have just bought subject to inspection a Rinker with a 7.4l Merc driving a bravo 5 outdive. I am told that the Bravo 5 is basically a race leg and un-breakable but can't seem to find much info on them. just wondering if they are as good as the seller is leading me to beleive. Also be handy if someone could give me an indication on fuel consumption on a 7.4l.
Thanks in advance. :)

Never heard of a Bravo 5, do you have a year, and maybe a picture?

Bravo 5 is basically a race leg and un-breakable

If it's built by man, it's breakable.

I have seen a Bravo X drive. It was a prototype and only several were made for testing by Merc.( So the guy told me) It just looked a little longer and was more square at the top.
I do know he sold the drive for some big bucks.

I was under the impression that the Brava X and Bravo III X were still made?

Bravo One XR = high performance. High Horsepower and over 65 MPH speeds. Forged gearset. Heavy duty clutch and bearing.

Unbreakable = Funny.

Bravo One is prone to upper gear breakage (relative to the XR).

Other Bravo Drives, such a dual props, offer B1 durability and good low and mid response, but the water pickups and dual props are not ideal for 65 MPH+ speeds.

Could be...my info came from a Merc Tech....
It was something about the serial number on that particular drive he told me.

If the drive is truly unbreakable, ask the seller if they're throwing in a lifetime unlimited, no exclusions, drive guarantee. After all, if it's unbreakable, they'd offer that without hesitation.

Never heard of a Bravo 5, but didn't they have a SuperSpeedMaster(SSM) V race drive?

LOL, Yep merc did have a SuperSpeedMaster(SSM) V race drive, But not for the 7.4l engine in a Rinker style boat.:D

kitacooch, Most likely you have either a Bravo One, Bravo two, Or Bravo Three series sterndrive to go with the 7.4l engine, Or you have a newer style bravo 1, 2, or 3, X series drive.;):)

Or there is a possibility that someone over time has upgraded the internal parts of the drive and put a new decal on it and called it a bravo 5 drive.

How many props are on the drive? The bravo 3 has two props.;)

Yes, that counts, and I'm ordering a brand new OMC Python drive to replace my aging Cobra.

all jokes aside; we need more information about your boat before you can get close to an answer on fuel economy

generally speaking and 454 isn't going to burn much more that a small block will. considering conditions are identical and under some conditions can be better

Re: Bravo 5 outdrive, any info???

I just picked up a 90 250 da with a 454 and a bravo III (never heard of bravo 5) drove it home from cape Vincent to henderson in hour and half and went through 25 gallons:D had her at 45 some times(new boat to me you know) but seems to cruise best at 3100 rpm running between 27 and 31 mph. I am hoping to see around 8 gallons an hour, any thoughts?

I'd like to see a picture of the Bravo 5. I'd only heard of the 1, 2, and 3 like the other posters said but it is intriguing....
