So I have began to reinstall the drives after a repaint and decided to do the lower shift cables before the big lift. Got the cables installed on the lower end, installed the core, everything just hanging loose up top. Got the drive just about on, lined up the clam grip for the cable and pushed it home. Nice and smooth. Go up top and assemble the cable to the approx. length where the old one was adjusted to and notice its not even close to making the mounting post. Jump back down, drive is still in gear, shifter at helm in neutral and it seems i cant get it out of gear by manually operating the cable. Any harm in starting the engine and trying to move the cable by hand to get into neutral? I have also read you can turn prop by hand and try to work the cable... it grabs in one direction so i guess you turn it the other way...?

pull the drive again and do the shift adjustment for bravo set-up before reinstalling the drive. Be sure the cable end fully enters the "clam grip" and locks the cable in.

No. You can run it (with water). The driveshaft has to be turning for shift yoke to center the clutch.
