I park my trailer on a gravel pad and a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the outdrive was in the full down position with the skeg buried into the gravel along with some of the prop pushing into the gravel. Long story short, I'm guessing one of the rain storms probably seeped into the swim platform trim switch and shorted it out and the drive dropped full down. The 20 amp fuse blew and the down solenoid burned out. I fixed it all so I could raise the outdrive out of the gravel.
Anyways, today I noticed a big dark spot on the gravel and gear oil streaking down the skeg and the reservoir was bone dry. I took the props off and it appears to be leaking at the out shaft seal on the carrier assembly.
My question is damage to the seal possible with the scenario I described above when the drive dropped to the full down position. I didn't notice anything the last time I went out or when I fixed the trim to get the drive up. This scenario is the only thing I can think of what happened. Either way have to get it fixed. Just being curious.
