Bravo 2 won't shift into reverese

Hello Fellow Mariners
I have a Bravo 2 that won't shift into reverse. Goes into forward OK. I have memories of an issue I had with an Alpha leg that had corrosion at the end of the blind channel the shift cable end runs down which kept it from travelling far enough to shift, but can't remember whether that was going into forward or reverse. Just curious if the Bravo 2 has the same type of design, and if this might be my problem.....? .....and if so ....any remedy(s) would be appreciated.Can't seem to find any detailed diagram on the net.

The end of the shift cable is completely different. There is a set of "jaws" that must close around a "ball" on the end of the cable in the drive. I once re-installed mine with the jaws closed, not clamping around the "ball". My drive would shift into forward. However, I couldn't pull it out of forward gear at all.

If yours goes from forward to neutral, then you have some other cable adjustment issues.

Not that this will necessarily help you but I've heard/read when shifting a bravo (as opposed to an alpha) when it is not running you want to be having someone turn the prop at the same time or some type of damage can occur; something about the type of mechanism used.

Did you try that and did it make any difference?
