Howdy! Im a 45 year old man from Snohomish WA and just acquired my first ever boat, an 88 Bayliner Capri with a 75 Mariner oil injected 3 cyl. outboard. Im just trying to figure everything out and also come up with an ignition as there is no key. I noticed on the ignition it says to "hold in for choke" and that the back of the ignition has 6 wires. Im trying to determine if these actuate some electric choke? Is it needed if I hot wire this? Is there a way to manually choke the engine for cold start? Thanks for any help!

The outboard key has a feature that when pushed in a solenoid is energized on the motor that chokes the carb. As long as it is pushed in the choke stays closed

Hi! Thanks for the info. I have no manual and am trying to figure this out. I ordered a new ignition so have to wait for that.

If that's a mercury control it might be possible to get a key from a mercury dealer. The older controls only had about 10 different keys.
If you can take the boat to a dealer they might be able to match it up.
