Re: braided line?

The good thing with braids there far easier to dig out a backlash 90% theres just one loop and a quick pull on it and a jerk on the line is all it takes to get it free, also if you get hung and pull alot on it,it will dig in so you before casting you need to pull some off the spool.

Re: braided line?

I just bought some Powerpro #20lb, so when the ice melts I will give it a try!

With braid, make sure you load it tight! If not, birdsnet can dig in, as Ron said, and then it's a lot harder to get out.

If Bass fishing, and casts are not long or you are flipping, Fill the spool allmost full with Mono, any old used stuff, then wrap it with electricians tape, then spool it on up. make sure you have about twice the amount you really need so you have some to cut back and retie. It wont cut into the rest of the line that way.

Be sure to use a five to six foot piece of 20lb test fluorocarbon leader. Join the two lines using a Uni-knot.

Re: braided line?

I used fireline primarily for wading and casting, on a spinning reel. River fishing, with non-clear water conditions.

Pluses:
+ Farther casting distance than mono.
+ Superior hookset on those far casts.
+ Held up longer in the rocks (jigging) than XT.

Minuses:
- Gets the "fuzzies" after some use. (but does not seem to degrade line) looks ugly.
- Had difficulties on hits near me. (esecially smallies) with no streach in the line, and such a close hit, they pulled the hook out of their jaw. You need a more limber rod, lighter drag setting, and/or even faster response time.
- Don't forget your clippers! Teeth don't fair well with this stuff.

Re: braided line?

Sorry, had to head off to work, but wanted to add info on my experience with snags, which did lead back to mono. Please keep in mind that 75% of my fishing is with jigs.

+ The braided line was stronger, so you could pull out of some snags that the mono would break on.

- Braid is very strong, and it is easy to pull too hard on a snag, and possibly bend the shaft on a spinning reel. ie long cast spool, fully extended. I did this to one reel.

- Bow and arrow method, to get off snags is much less effective with braided line.

Overall, I ended up loosing more jigs with braid, than mono. while I still have spools with braid, don't use them as often. It basicly comes down to, if the I need the extra casting distance over retaining more jigs. ie, if I am reaching and catching fish on mono, won't bother to try switching to braid.

Re: braided line?

I use the braid when I do if I want the sensativity. Power pro for me. I like it for jigging, worming and spinnerbaits. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM What else is there. Oh, Cranking, mono is the line of choice there.

Re: braided line?

I started off using braids on my rats and buzzbaits then progressed into lots of others.
