Come on people let's boycott the news shows that prey upon emotions. 60 minutes had a big part of destroying the life of Specialist Graner. I really don't care what happened in Iraq in a prison. That should be classified information for appropriate use.

I would like to see all news programs that make a point of sensation reports be put out of business. I believe in Freedom of Speech however there are certain things that need to be left alone.

Get the media out of Iraq or even better bring our Soldiers home and leave the media in Iraq.

Who should make the decision about "things that need to be left alone"? Freedom of Speech is inclusive not exclusive, otherwise it's orchestrated censorship.

While I agree with BoatBuoy I also like the idea of exercising freedom to not watch/listen to scandal mongering media.

A problem with that, though, is that even Fox, whom I view as the most objective source, ignores boring good news in favor of stuff that triggers adrenalin. :(

JB; If you think that fox news is the most objective, then in your opinion all the others must be downright dirt smirching propaganda machines.
Bob; news, biased or not, is a tool that markets advertizement to the public. This is so refined that at this point in time, there is specialized advertizement for different shades of political opinion.(case in point:fox advertizes more pick up trucks and cbs does more minivans and suv's).Fear makes you remember things very well. That is why all these stations love to show blood, gore, torture and the like.It will burn the fearful image in your mind ,with the image of the car they advertize right along with it.

The only thing I listen to the news for is the weather. All other news I get right here at iboats and local news on our AM channel.

Re: Boycott - News Shows

The point I am trying to make is just be slightly more diplomatic about the news choices. I am not condoning outright censorship but certain news items should be left alone. Why were those prisoners in jail? Certainly not for being over friendly!

The prisoner abuse was sad however it gets more press then our soldiers who have been wounded by IED (Improvised Explosive Devices). Graner only did what most of us wanted to except he carried the thoughts out.

Isn't there always three sides to every story? Ours, theirs and the truth.

Bob

For a "true" first hand view we should arm the media, and they can do the fighting and report on it as it is being lost errr done. Love to see Katie Couric in camoflouge with a semo automatic weapon.

News outlets are already changing, been changing for a while now. Its just that the big three are still ignoring the changes needed.

Already don't watch most of it, I'm too old (getting close to 50) and to the point where my time in life is spent enjoying the yournger days I've got left with my wife and family, can't spend hours a day watching those idiots.

I go to the net and read what I want to read from many sites. I think I am smart enough to figure what is true and not biased and true.

You know that there is a spin on news, whether it is to your taste or not, when the News Organizations freely admit that they have a target demographic. As stated above, there are different advertisements and sponsors for news shows on different networks, and this is not because they like the broadcast more, it is because they are using these medium to reach their target audiences.

The news organizations know this, and they tailor their "news reporting" to match what their target demographic wants to watch, and they spin it to what that demographic feels strongly about.

As long as they are pandering to advertisers with these news shows, they are bound to them, and to the ratings that they crave.

There is no objectivity when the primary motivation is profit.

I allready boycott the alphabet media and all thier spin-off propaganda vehicles such as 60minutes, the view, ect.
I'm partial to non-fiction from the news I watch.
What I don't understand is why any of these shows are still airing. They simply have to be artificially funded, because we know for fact, thier market shares have been below solvent levels for at least 6 years, and in some cases, longer.
