The general terminology used back in the day was the "Wing Window" you could open it, with the main window still closed and get cooler air circulating through the car, crack the rear window, open the wing window and you had moving air through the vehicle.

Come on Bruce, you are not that young!

Oh yea the little side vent windows that you could open to allow air in without the huge wind noise of opening the entire door window. I don't think we will ever see them again.

My 84 and 85 F250 trucks have them and my 91 had them, but I really don't remember seeing much with them since about the start of the 90's That said, the 70's Chevy Vega did not have them, many of the 1970 Mustangs didn't have them. 1970 Camero didn't have them.

I thought we were talking about the AC system! My 1990 Suburban still had them. I never used them. The 1991or 1992 Suburban didn't have them because they went to a newer body style.

I have tried to do the borrow thing with them and by time I drive to town, pick it up drive back only to find out it is messed up and don't work right, it is not worth it, being in a small town, most of the time, they don't have one in stock to loan out, cause someone else has already got it!

That gauge set and vacuum pump from HF is cheaper than the hassle of renting/borrowing one. Mine does just as good as my old $400 robinaire.

To bring everybody up to date...

I went over to our AC shop last week and explained what happened on our vacation trip. Diagnosis - my wife's car needed a new compressor and evaporator. Estimated cost to repair was $800 - $900!

So we traded the car in for a brand new 2017 Hyundai Elantra! :D

My wife is thrilled. She's only been in the US for 5 years, working for less than 2 years and qualified to buy the car all by herself! :joyous:

I'm happy. She's happy and cool! :smow: :soap:
