Box Anchors?

What's the verdict on these. I've seen reviews that make them sound like the greatest thing ever and demonstrations of how they work seem pretty impressive. Where I like to anchor we can get swirling winds, so something that will easily reset itself with a change in direction sounds really intriguing.

Anyone have experience with them?

All my pontoon buddies swear by them. In action they typically hold very well, I've seen one hold a 30ft toon, a 24ft toon and my little 19ft runabout. They're heavy, and awkward to deploy IMO and likely overkill for anything smaller than 30ft.

I have never used one,
but half the lost anchors I find when the lake level drops are box anchors.

No personal experience but a friend who has a 38' Formula has had one for years and always recommends them to anyone who asks about it. He is an engineer and a retired Indycar team manager, so he knows his stuff.

So...does that mean they're hard to retrieve or more likely to be thrown overboard without the line attached?

Growing up on the Mississippi we had some anchors for our houseboat that were really set, but nothing we couldn't put a few wraps on a cleat and power loose.
