This thread reminded me of this. A few years back I found a good, "independent" test, supposedly confirming what I have always believed, that these Box Anchors cannot be as good as everyone that owns them says. Their website is horrible, but this video is pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0-TSGH5GrQ I use their Shore Spike, and I love it for a beach anchor. Their Quick Cleat looks pretty cool too, but here's my question. How in the heck can so many people love these Box Anchors? Can they be this good? 2:1 scope? No chain?

The test that I used to refer to is gone now. Does anybody have any decent test data? I am a firm believer in Danforth style with chain. My gut feel has been that those that love these just never understood how to set an anchor properly. But I have never seen a bad review with the exception of price complaints. What I will say is that fellow AZ boaters face the challenge of needing very low scope. We often anchor in steep canyon "coves" and we just can't deal with typical 5+:1 scope. We have swirling winds, tight quarters, and deep bottoms. This means we can't swing around 360 degrees without hitting something if we have a lot of rode out.

Bottom line? I want to hate these things, but I am not sure I should . . . Anybody know of any quality tests?

Re: Box Anchor info

Nothing official, but one of our friends switched from a danforth/chain to a box anchor on a 28? ft cruiser and couldn't believe how much better it seemed to work. When I've seen him use it, it does hook up immediately and the boat doesn't seem to move even when the water gets choppy.

Re: Box Anchor info

The old test that I saw dismissed them as having no holding power. I can;t find it on the net anymore. I'm hoping someone has a copy or a new link.
