Bow Mount on V-Hull Help

Hey Fellas,

Just picked up an older 14' V-Hull Alumacraft this weekend. I have a 55lb Minn Kota bow mount trolling motor I want to put on the front. I'm also going to make a small casting deck up front.

My question is.. How can I make the front of the bow level so that I can mount the trolling motor? I see so many people online have done it, but the bow of the boat I got has a slight rise, so it would make it hard to get a level surface to mount the motor safely. I was hoping someone here could shine some expertise with photos or tips if they have encountered the same scenario. Thanks!

afalconsvick, I do see the slight rise going on there. But that isn't a show stopper. You could take a 2" x 6" piece of wood and cut it so that the front was a lot thinner then the back of it. Then cover it with some carpet and install the trolling motor on top and bolt it to the existing plate. That way the trolling motor would be basically level. And if there was a little angle to it, you should be able to adjust the mounting bracket to accommodate for that.

You could also use most any type material like aluminum as well to do the same thing. You could take a sheet of aluminum and bent it to fit the same contour of the rise. And then attach that to the front plate and mount the trolling motor on that. So many ways to fix that setup.

Hope that helps some. :noidea:

They sell wedges like GM is talking about, or make one

The attached photo is from the surface level on my phone. Seems pretty good, but again I don't know much. I feel like I could probably mount it now and shim it with a rubber washer or two. Thoughts?

Just remember, the only thing that transfer any thrust and direction control from the trolling motor to the boat, is the mounting hardware. So make it good and firm however you do it.
