Has anyone made a fishing platform to drop into the bow area of a Q5? I thought that I read a while back that some one has made one. I would love to find out how it works and see pictures.

What I would like to do is create a plywood platform to fill in the bow area. It would have a cut out for the fishing chair and I am thinking of mounting the trolling motor controller on it. I was also thinking of putting in an in-deck tackle box that would be behind the chair and between the bow seats. I plan to put it in when I go fishing and remove it when I'm playing.

Is this a good idea? Any suggestions on types of material and paint?

Re: Bow Fishing Platform For Q5 FS

I had thought about putting one into the bow of my Q4. My main concern would be locking it in place while underway. I was thinking of installing some kind of latching system onto the boat so that I could lock the panel in there so it doesn't fly out under choppy conditions.

As far as materials, I was going to use marine grade plywood and then cover that in some type of synthetic material carpet. I was going to install latched doors above my coolers on either side of the bow to drop the fish or store supplies.

I guess my idea was to have a pretty snug fit and I think that the fishing chair post will keep it from going anywhere. Do you plan to leave it in permanently? My plan was to only use it when I fish. The loss of the use of the coolers may be a problem but after sizing it up I think that adding hatches over the coolers will take away too much support. Maybe one hatch would work, I would like to be able to use at least one of the coolers.

The carpet sounds like a great idea. I'll have to look into incorporating it into the plan. Let me know how it works out I'd love to see pics of the project. I am just in the planning phase but want to have it started by spring time. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Re: Bow Fishing Platform For Q5 FS

Hello All,
Just wondering if anybody has finished their bow platform as yet and could add some pictures. I'm keen to make one as well and just want to know what works. Carpet on top is a great idea with a couple of hatches for access to the storage on either side underneath. Does anybody have an idea of what to put on the under side of the ply to stop any rubbing on the fibreglass, would a type of vinyl stapled on be a good idea. Any feedback and photos would be great.
Cheers
