Bow cover for SuperSport

I'm reviving an Alum Goods Corp 16 foot bowrider, very similar to the SS16. The bow area has an aluminum trim extrusion with a rolled lip on it that looks like it could have been used to affix some type of bow cover. The same profile is actually used for the entire main cockpit area as well, running from consoles all the way to the transom. Here's a better pic of the profile, on the right below.

I'm planning cover options for my boat, and am reviewing options aside from the std snaps. It looks like a cover with integral cord that can be popped under that lip might be have been used? Do any Starcrafts incorporate something similar, and if so, does anyone still use this arrangement? Any pics floating around?

If not possible, would you just do a 1 piece cover to go over the sides of the gunnels using a draw string /strap?

Not sure. I'm a bit torn at this point. Thinking separate bow cover and main deck cover to start, and for longer term storage perhaps a one-piece cover that could be popped on, perhaps over the sides as you mention, although the bow railing is a hassle in that regard. Bow cover is nice to keep wind/rain out when underway during inclement weather but might be a challenge to keep perfectly watertight at the windshield center section.

I think that’s designed as a small spray rail to keep water from rolling in.
Would you not use the one piece cover you have or did it not come with the boat?
My bow cover comes up behind the folding glass with three snaps, but there are leak points all around. So a good cover for inclimate weather only. I will keep mine for that but as soon as my boat account recovers, I’m springing for a 1 piece to cover it all. I don’t know if I will put the bow rails back on if that causes issues

My existing cover will not fit over the taller windscreen without significant modifications. I have a bunch of marine top fabric and supplies left over from when I made tops for a Tempest bowrider we owned briefly, and learned just enough to be dangerous on the thread injection machine. And yes, it did leak a bit at the corners of that flap that goes up behind the center glass.

OK, so you're thinking that curved lip was never used to hold a top in place? You're probably right. I've never seen a cover that used that lip, and yet it looks like an accurately sized top with an integral elastic sewn into the edge might be able to be popped into place, and hold snug without snaps. Maybe I should give my head a shake, and add that to the winter 2022/2023 project list!

Duh me, of course… I forgot that you had the taller windshield. Do you think it’s worth or possible to modify your existing cover? Even if just temporary measure
I know of a small home based shop in KW that might do at a reasonable cost.

It could be modified, as it's not in bad shape currently. It is heavier canvas, rather than the high-tech Sunbrella and similar materials. I prefer the latter, as they fold up and store a bit smaller. Still undecided at this point. Need to get wiring done, and Yamaha back on and rigged first.

That aluminum trim piece is vey similar, maybe the same as a piece that was in our 1972 Starcraft pop up camper. It was used to secure an small awning over the entry door. My uncle still has that camper sitting in the barn on his farm. May have to go and examine it more closely.

Can't imagine any way to use it for a boat cover.

Probably just a case of using something they already had in their shop.

@roscoe - interesting the similarities to the pop-up trailer trim. You're right, it's probably a std profile used in a variety of applications. Given the nice roll-over lip, I was thinking it was intended to allow a cover to somehow attach to it, but I'm not hearing anyone confirming this, so I must be out in left field on that one!
