Hi gurus of the sea.. bought myself a new boat today..

Its a 22ft 2007 Miami 670, designed by the legendary Jim Wynne..
94_365795045_xl.jpg

It got a VP 4.3GXI-B in it with the duoprop sterndrive.

cant wait to get it in the water, going to be a huge upgrade from my ol 1986 MCM140..

wondered though:

Is there anything i should be aware of with this engine/sterndrive?

I have a chartplotter with NMEA2000 capabilities, garmin gpsmap 720S, can i hook this up and get engine data(fuel flow)?

are the NGK BPR6FS correct spark plugs?

anything else you would want to share regarding this I would be happy to hear it.. :)

just waiting to get it home so i can do some TLC and get it out where it belongs..:)

more pics.

Click Here and download the owners manual for your engine. Lots of good information. Follow the maintenance schedule and you should be fine.

BPR6EFS, you missed the E in your number.

Not absolutely sure about the NMEA2000 compatability, but I am fairly sure you can't hook to the ECM.

already downloaded the owners manual, workshopmanual and efi diagnostics manual. found it on 4shared as you had uploaded, thanks a heap! BPR6EFS, thanks.

so i cant hook up a vp nmea converter/gateway, or is my engine to old? hoped it might work one way or the other since it had the onboard diagnostics and all the other bells and whistles..

Onboard diagnostics is not the same as what you are wanting. The EVC (Electronic Vessel Control) engines had a place in the HCU (Helm control unit) to hook up a 2000. But you don't have EVC.

Ok, I'll just have to let that go then.. :) are there anything in particular I should look after when I get the boat home, sign of wear, overheating issues etc? Going to change all filters, flush oil and spark plugs. The stern drive was serviced last year and the boat didn't even hit the water. So not sure if I'm going to touch that other than check the oil level.

If you don't know when the impeller was last replaced, I would sure put a new one in, REALLY cheap insurance to prevent a possibly expensive overheat.

Just an FYI, the raw water pump with the impeller is NOT in the outdrive, it's mounted on the engine.

Woot?? I took for granted that the impeller was on the outdrive and the water pump on the engine was a.... well, water pump!? Is that the only water pump there is, no additional circulating pumps?

The impeller is inside the raw water pump mounted on the engine. It sucks up water from the drive. There is also a circulating pump mounted on the engine that pumps it through the block. 2 separate pumps.

Maybe you should start looking at those manuals you downloaded.

Here is page 24 from the owners manual. Items 5 and 11.

holy crap, thats genius.. cant believe I missed that! so no need to take apart the outdrive to change impeller.. very nice!:) like VP better and better.. thanks Don.

yes, i know the back cover is missing, they promised to find it. but I wonder if it have been taken away due to conflict with the platform in trailer mode? seems like a tight fit. what?? wheres the trailer gone!?:D:D

Re: Bought myself a new boat, my first VP.. joy!! 4.3GXI-B some questions..

got the boat home today. oh boy this engine is quiet, just a whizzing sound.. :)

got faria gauges in the boat, the trim gauge is way out of range.. it works, but it shows that the drive is tilted half way up when the drive is at the bottom.

how do i calibrate it on this outdrive? on my ol merc it was just to adjust the sender on the outdrive.

also, i couldnt get over how stiff the gas lever was.. but will loosen after some use i guess. isnt there any way to get it in neutral to rev the engine without being in gear? or is this an option?

You can trim down all the way, then adjust the sender on the starboard side of the drive so that the gauge shows full down.

Most volvo controls have a button at the center of the throttle arm joint (it looks chrome in your picture). Depressing that while advancing the throttle will keep it in neutral while applying throttle.

The back cover is shaped so it should not interfere, it does not add much "length" to the top edge.

i thought so to with pressing the middle button, but here i had to actually pull the whole lever out to get it free..
trim gauge is adjusted. :)

back cover is ordered. hope it`ll fit.

rearranged the "dash", flush mounted the chartplotter on starboard side, and I moved all the instruments to port side of the steering wheel. but now i have room for a 6th instrument if I want.. any suggestions? i have now

rpm with hrs
mph
volt,
fuel
trim
oil pressure
temperature

That is a Teleflex control, not Volvo. They work different some times. But no matter the make, there is always a way of having throttle only with those controls. Rather a button in the center, off to the side, or pulling the lever out. There is always a way.

Might want to post that over in the Boat Topics and Questions (not engine topics) forum. Not really an engine drive topic, and it will get a lot more views and opinions over there as well.
