Re: Bought my first 32" flat screen TV

The new flat screens are great televisions. I remember when it took two burglars to carry off a 32" television, and they've got them down to 23 lbs.

I have two 60" tv's and a 40" flat screen Sony Google TV. I've noticed that it takes a much larger flat screen tv vs. one of the old model tv's. But the pictures are incredible. I just wish I didn't have to have a Comcast box for every television in the house--costing us a bunch.

Time Warner Cable isn't cheap out here..

Cable/Internet in 3 rooms = $118 a month.

If you are new to flat screens and I am presuming HD TV, how do you get your TV signal? Is it terrestrial (aerial) or by cable or by satellite?
I have only ever had cable, so have no knowledge of the other 2, but if you are on cable, then you will likely need to swap out your cable box for an HD one, otherwise all you are getting is standard def, but on a flat screen.
We had a 36" CRT till 2 yrs ago, then we upgraded to a 60" flat screen LCD. I was a little underwhelm,ed by the picture quality, till I realized I had to get Brighthouse to swap my cable box/dvr for an HD one. The difference then was night & day.

Re: Bought my first 32" flat screen TV

Wait do you mean this is your first Flat screen TV since their introduction or that you've already owned flat screen TV's but this is your first in the 32" size? I'm already going through my second generation of them but still have about 8 regular crt's left sitting around.

Since we are talking about cable....I've only had the local cable tv only in order to have cable internet. (flatly refuse to pay for cable tv and never have). They Comcast/xfinity now as of last week scramble local channels requiring you to get a cable box for each room and a more expensive one if you want hd. In the matter of a week they have darn near doubled the cost of what I already had in the name of convenience. We haven't had tv for a week now as I got no warning this was coming. All this just for local channels since I can't get decent ota tv signal. I'm seriously considering a dish since the lake house is wired for dish and you can get a second box for second homes cheaply as the lake neighbors tell me.

Dish is costing me $90 a month, I don't have any premium channels, but I do have a second receiver that I purchased that I can take with me in the RV during the summer, no internet, so Dish is not cheap either. I use the 2nd receiver in the bedroom when not traveling, now I just need to pick up a tailgater, which is going to run about $350. I am thinking about picking up a 32" for the bedroom and putting our 24" with built in DVD in the 5th wheel.

Wow well you are in for a treat. The fun really starts with a larger say 55 or 60 inch screen when things are practically life size. I see it is a 60Hz tv so you won't get to experience the Soap Opera Affect that you get on 120Hz and over models.

MT, I got this deal from a friend at Best Buys. $217 cash out the door.

I can't wait for NASCAR now !!. :)

I can assure you, you are going to love NASCAR in HD, I was amazed when I first saw the neon colors on some of the cars, make sure and upgrade the sound system as well, I have not seen a good speaker set up on a new flatscreen yet!

Re: Bought my first 32" flat screen TV

I have a sound bar that sits in front of my TV and a subwoofer, I paid less than $100 for the sound bar and found a really nice subwoofer at a pawn shop for $60, it is only a 2.1 system, but the sound is quite good and more than enough for my wife and I in our living room. There are going to be some really good buys this season on the 2.1 systems, you need to talk to your friend at Best Buy, he should be able to come up with an upgraded system for you quite reasonable.

OK thanks MT, I'll call Brad and see what he says.

PS, I wondering why he didn't say anything about upgrading the sound.

He's the one that talked me out of the Flintstones age TV.

Flatscreens are like laptops, just not very much room in there for good sound, he might have got excited to help you get your first one and just forgot to mention it.
