If you know how to get up, get out there and shred! You Tube how-to's are great help...
I just bought my first one two months ago! Gator Legends with Slingshot D2's

Let's see some pics

As soon as you learn to get up and carve around... get a new board!

Other than that, my biggest tip is watch some how to's from the learn wake crew on you tube before you develop bad habits that will keep you from progressing later.

Sounds good, but why a new board, what is wrong with this one? I know it was only $200.

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

You just wont progress as fast on that board. I am pretty darn frugal. I was advancing pretty good when out with friends and using their boards (CWB and hyperlight). I got back into boating and picked up a hydroslide board. I am very satisfied with my hydroslide kneeboards and skis, but I will tell you, my learning curve flattened on that board. I can switch heel to toe, jump the wake, etc, but just was not advancing as fast. I found a great craigslist deal on a liquid force fish, and with just 2 outings, I feel back on a steeper learning curve.

So, go have fun on it, and if you start hitting the wall with progressing, be sure to try a couple of other boards before giving up on the sport.

Just go out and have fun. I find waketrix.com to be VERY helpfull. I'm on my second year on a Liquid Force Trip and love it. My brother rides a Hyperlite State and you can tell the difference for sure between the boards. It's all about what you get comfy on. Only advice is watch the front edge! Holy Hell can that hurt!

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

As stated above, they are cheaper because they haven't really invested in the technology to develop different boards with different features to address how you ride.

Some boards have more speed, some have more pop, some grip the water better, some slide easier, some land softer.... etc. What it comes down to is after you learn how to get up, how to edge, and start jumping... you are going to need something that fits your riding style. You can ony find this two ways. 1. try a lot of different boards until you fall in love with one. 2.Understand your riding style and what you want out of you board... like if you are having trouble with you landings, or if you are sliding out of your edge... get a board with a good spine and molded in fins with a cupped tail. This would give you softer landings and more control.

You won't find this on a Hydroslide. They don't invest in research, they don't sponsor riders to get feed back from, and thus they don't have these evolved features on their boards. This will start holding you back.

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

agreed with all the others... i started on a cheap Hobie, within a month i got a 2010 Ronix One with matching bindings and my riding progressed ten fold... you need to feel connected to the board and the cheaper ones dont allow that as much! just my 2 cents tho, and that's 2 cents canadian...

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

Well thanks for all the advice guys. I took it out yesterday. On about the tenth attempt I managed to stand up, by this time my wife also had figured what speed to pull me at. At this point there was no turning back - I loved it. After this I was getting up almost every time. I had some really good rides - big thumbs up:D

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

It's so weird how once you get up that first time, something just clicks and it's nearly automatic (unless you are tired!)

I tried probably a grand total of 30 times across two seasons before I finally got up on a wakeboard. It was extra nice that the first boat I got up on a board behidn was my own boat as well, with my wife driving. She's a better driver than me now.

I know I've had enough though when I can't get up anymore. Just too tired to hang on....

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

I have an Obrian system and I think I'm progressing pretty well, I've only been at it about 2 months now and I can get about 4-5ft of air and do 180s over the wake in both directions but I know my board and bindings suck because I didn't even pay 200 for the combo. New bindings are in my near future (one more paycheck) but has anyone used this board in comparison to others because Im always motivated to be the best i can be and i dont want my equipment holding me back but i dont have the means of trying anything else. I'm pretty much the only one i know that is into wakeboarding.

Kneeboarding is kinda like using a wheel chair to shop around walmart when you have perfectly good legs to stand up and walk haha i bet you body board too because surfing is too hard. I totally kidding of course i use to kneeboard when I was 12ish

For any beginner , intermediate, or advanced rider I HIGHLY reccomend buying or downloading "The Book" its a series of instuctional dvds that will help any rider progress. I have been watching them as I wait for my new wake tower to come in, and I cant wait to get back out there!

Re: Bought my 1st wakeboard

Why all the kneeboard hate? I love mine. Gots to have both on the boat.

Kind of reminds me of the roadies and their disdain for mt. bikes.

Anything that rides above the water when pulled behind the boat is AOK with me, even the old reliable bare feet.
