Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and just bought my first boat 2 days ago. I'd love to tell you what kind of boat it is, manufacture ect, but I can't. I can tell you it's a 14' fiberglass boat. There is no motor, no serial number, no HIN, no title, nothing but a few marks on the side (I'm thinking maybe state registration numbers? But not sure.) I did get a title for the trailer though.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me identify the manufacture of this boat, maybe a guesstimate of the year as well. Also how I should go about getting a title for it, would that even be possible? And how to register it without a title, if that is possible.

I'm sorry for all the 'noob' questions, but I'm about as 'noob' as they get right now. I've been reading online for a day and a half trying to figure this stuff out and figured I might make more progress asking people who know what they're doing for help. Because I don't know anybody that knows how to help me out with this.

All I'm wanting to do is put a trolling motor on it and slowly cruse around the lake fly fishing.

I'll post a couple pix below, flame me if you must, but I really would appreciate any information whatsoever. Oh, and I'm in Colorado if that helps at all.

Thanks :D

If your state requires registration for electric motors, your screwed... Too many old manufactures lasted a dozen years or less to pinpoint that manufacture and some 'splashed' others hulls.. Early 1960's hull is my only guess

Those numbers are the boat's last registration numbers for the state of Georgia. In the state of Colorado, you will need the following to register that vessel:

How to Register a Boat or Water Craft in Colorado | DMV

TO REGISTER IN PERSON (CO)
•You can register a boat in person by visiting your local State Park office.
•You must bring a completed boat registration application and proof of ownership such as a bill of sale, invoice, bill of lading, certificate of origin, or out-of-state title.

TO REGISTER BY U.S. MAIL (CO)
The boat registration application, fee and proof of ownership can also be mailed to:

Colorado State Parks
Registration Unit
13787 S Highway 85
Littleton, CO 80125

You'll need an engine before you register it, as well as some proof of ownership, such as a Bill of Sale.

Look real good up under the deck or back by the transon. Some manufacturers glassed the info in some strange places. Get a flashlight and look over the whole boat, you might get lucky!

Um, no. Boat registrations from Georgia start with GA, not CL.

That is a Colorado registration.

Did some searching for you to no avail. Not much help now but the usual recommendation is -no title=no sale-

you likely don't need anything other than a bill of sale and the existing registration number on the side..

I "seller" received $xxx payment in full for 14' outboard boat registration number CL4238GA from "buyer" on "date"

CO does not require title for registration, a bill of sale is protocol. I cannot help with ID, but as others said above, give the hull and transom structures a good close look.

Thank you everybody so much for the help. I contacted the seller and he is waiting for me to go over there so he can sign the bill of sale that I wrote up.

Smokeonthewater, THANK YOU! Quick question though, if you look closely at the second picture, there use to be an "M" in front of the "CL4238GA" should I include the "M" in the bill of sale even though it's been peeled off? Or just the "CL4238GA" ?

I love this site, thanks again guys!

The 'M' looks like where the yearly registration sticker would normally be.

When you go to register the boat, give them Fiberglass for the make, 14' runabout for the model. Make a guess for the year as close as you can.. ie: 1965. Seriously, they won't give a care. I assume you have a license plate on the trailer?

Great! Thanks for the info. And to be honest, I don't really know if there is a license plate on the trailer or not. I bought the boat and trailer together for $75.00 so I didn't ask a whole lot of questions (stupid of me, but life rolls on.) I loaded up the boat and got it home as fast as I could. If it does have a license plate I can guarantee it's expired. So I'll be working on that as well.

If Colorado is "CO" then it's not a Colorado boat; it's a Georgia boat with the numbers on wrong. OP, where are you?

Every state is different on what they require; you have to know the rules for YOUR state. Not all will take just a Bill of Sale. You may have to get the seller to go through the "lost title" process to complete the sale. Crazy to have to go through all that over a 50 year old $75 boat.

It's also possible a trolling motor exempts you--again you have to know YOUR state; no one else's matters.

Well good news, I got the bill of sale in hand. Hopefully that is enough to register the boat here in Co.

I also just bought a Minn Kota Turbo 65T, 36lb thrust trolling motor (transom mount) for $40.00... What does the 65T stand for? And do you think that will be enough to push me around the lake (very small lake with no 'waves' to speak of)? I'm not interested in going anywhere fast, mainly bought it so I don't have to paddle the boat around. lol

Thank you for the info Home Cookin, I am in Colorado. It would be awesome if a trolling motor exempts me, but unfortunately I read that in Colorado any boat with a motor, weather it be electric or gas, must be registered if it is going to be operated on public waters.

Also, thanks for the links mooshead, I really appreciate that. I'll get to reading right now :)

65t means nothing useful... just a model number and t likely means transom

That motor will move you just fine in calm conditions... if the wind picks up, not so much

Might wanna keep your eyes open for a 5-10 hp outboard to add to your collection, assuming you really do have no interest in speed, and possibly a bow mount electric motor with 60 plus lbs of thrust
