OK, Just inherited a Catalina 25 Sailboat, and it's been tied to a dock for the past 6 years, getting ready to haul it out and clean the bottom, how do I figure out how much bottom paint to buy? and what type is better? on a budget, so can't afford more than I make without standing on a corner with a cardboard sign saying will work for bottom paint. any help will be Greatly Appreciated!:facepalm:

I used a gallon on my Catalina 22 . . . But you probably will want/need 2 gallons since your boat is a bit bigger and it has not been done in a while.

If it has been sitting in the water for about 6 years, do you know if the bottom is going to need a significant amount of prep work? Barnacle removal, Blister repair?, etc.

I am from the "do it right the first time" group of people. Do not do cheap and fast........ if you have to wait it out for more cash I would suggest that. A boat that has been tied up for 6 years is bound to need more then bottom paint so you will have plenty to do.

Thanks Bob, I feel the same way, I realize it's fall, and the boat will need a lot more than just a power wash and a good scrapping, I figure that I would have to sand her all the way down, as I want to look at her Keel pretty closely, and not sure what I'll find when I do, It's been 30 years since I had one, the last was when I was still single, and she was a West Sail 32, all in All I got a Good deal of work ahead, Fortunately the Interior was Immaculate, And Sails, Running Rigging and Standing rigging where all replaced 6 years ago, along with the electrical, found some issues with connections, but all in all good shape, but 30+ years has a way of messing with your mind, and couldn't remember all the steps I needed to take with the hull. any suggestions will be taken with Great appreciation! and while I am a Frugal kind of guy, I was kidding about the Budget,

around Mid July I jumped in and scraped as much as I could so that I could sail her over to the Boat yard, however, as I'm on the road quite often, I figure fall is the best time to Haul her out for the winter, and do all I can do before the cold weather hits, stretching my mind back 30+ years though is giving me migraines trying to remember the steps taken to do a good job, any suggestions would be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks!
