Bottom end soot

Bottom end was removed to check water pump from a over heat alarm
now I have exhaust soot showing My boat is docked Will it cause more issues to keep running it

Soot getting to the outside like that is a leaking water/exhaust tube seal. You must have knocked it loose when you removed the lower unit.

You can run it, put the leak will get worst and make a mess (oil and grime) of your lower unit.

OK, looks to be a johnnyrude. Check the part diagram for that motor at crowleymarine or other site and see if it has a seal where the exhaust housing contacts the gearcase. It is easy for it to move out of position.

BTW - the gearcase to midsection joint is usually made up of slots to allow water and exhaust to escape, if it builds up.
