Carb....

Advancing the carb throttle without the timer?.....well not sure.

Spray something like carb cleaner or propane into the carb shaft at idle and report.
Might just be a bad carb.
I have tried switching carbs though.
I mean I've straightforward spark tested it and bottom cylinder has a weak spark. I might dva test the cdi output again I guess

Intake isn't flat maybe....test with combustibles.

Look for a gremlin.
But if there is a clear electrical problem shouldn't I address that?

I just did another dva and spark test. I think found some crucial information. The DVA test is giving a good 200v like it is on the other cylinders, however the spark test is showing intermittent spark, its not consistent like the other cylinders

What the hell do I do about intermittent spark. Magnets on flywheel look good with a rough look, CDI is supposedly new (last owner just replaced it apparently). Stator is new

CDI. It became clear to me once I established the cylinder had weak spark, you can see my comment earlier

I think now its just ive established its maybe more an intermittent spark rather than a weak spark

Index the flywheel and check #3 for intermittent spark. Swap the coils as they are a pressed powder core and easily broken from overtightening. This can cause coil to intermittent or double fire. If still intermittent place meter inline and see if DVA voltage is low when coil is attached.

I've definitely sufficiently tried switching coils, even with a new coil.
I voltage tested with DVA and coil was getting same voltage as other cylinders.
What exactly does indexing it identify? Like what possibilities are out there (not asking rhetorically) for faults? Magnets looked to be nicely distanced and had a strong pull to them. I haven't checked with a timing light to see what happens but I do have a timing light

Correction - I've replaced the stator and looked at the magnets and they look good with a visual inspection

I have a question. I have another 60hp evinrude that is an older model. Will it's power pack (0583748) be interchangeable with the problem motors power pack (5004532)? One states 'for 4 wire timer base' and the other states 'for 5 wire timer base'

You know how index? Bring each cylinder to TDC and mark on flywheel at timing pointer. The take timing lite and check each cylinder to see if it is firing at correct time. They will be a few degrees off from mark but if you see a big difference. Its not magnets as if hub slipped all cylinders timing will be effected.

Ok i'll do this but what can actually cause this?
