Does anyone have any good recommendations for Boot Stripe paint? This will be down by the bottom paint, so it will probably get less sun exposure, and more water abuse from wakes/waves. I'm unsure if a top side style paint will work, or if there is something else I should be looking for? I know they sell boot stripe tape, but I am looking for alternatives.

Thanks for the photo arks. Seeing as you have the same exact boat I just purchased the really helps. Do you have a photo from a distance? Idk if I want a lighter stripe or a real dark green.

CONGRATS! It's even the same year as mine.
Tell us about it- how and where you found it, your first voyage, etc.
I used a dark green that matches the hull stripe.
Here's a shot- no charge :p

Very nice shot and the color actually looks very close to the top green.

The closing will happen this week. It is the same year as yours, same color scheme. Cabin had a little updating, but shes on the hard for winter. The plan is to take care of some things, splash her in the spring and being her to our boat club. I will be keeping a good log of photos and info about the boat, as I did with the last one.

BTW, what color easypoxy was that?

Did you do a seatrial and/or have it surveyed, or are you taken' your chances for the right price?
Either way, good luck with it! Any questions, feel free.
I've had mine 7 years.

It's Jade Green # 3348

No sea trial, but full survey, motors run to temp, etc. Price was hard to beat. Surveyor basically said for the price we got it, it was a steal.

I thought it was Jade Green, definately looks real nice. Did you do it or did you have it done?

I re-did the original stripes a couple years ago during the bottom re-hab. They had gotten pretty beat up after 25 years.

Re: Boot Stripe Paint

Interesting thing I noticed while at the boat yesterday, the bottom paint covers my exhaust ports, yet the visible waterline is actually below the exhaust port. I'm not sure I want that much bottom paint to show along the side of the boat. Yours looks to be in the right spot.

Re: Boot Stripe Paint

Well, I gotta tell you- I like how it looks but that bottom white stripe is a ***** to keep clean!:)
Before I renovated the bottom that area was permanantly stained.

When I did the bottom work, I brought the white barriercoat up into the wide boot stripe, then re-painted the stripe down to its original width. Now it's easier to keep clean, but I gotta take a sponge or brush to that white area every month or so.

If I were to do it again (which I WONT!!!) I'd bring the stripes and bottom paint up maybe another inch or so....

Re: Boot Stripe Paint

My idea might have changed. I have found a Forest Green colored boot stripe tape that looks nice, and would probably be an easier application. Being that my bottom paint is actually really high (up over the top of the exhaust port), my idea, instead of sanding down to gelcoat, is to smooth out the existing stuff (it's actually in good shape, not many layers) and paint the new black bottom paint right to the line of the existing. Then run the dark green boot stripe. Once applied, I would run a white boot stripe (smaller, 1/2" or so) below the green, which would give the illusion of the hull color.

I have seen this done, and it really looks good. Up close you would probably notice it being striping over gelcoat, but anyone being that nit-picky, isn't invited on the boat.
