Looks like claw marks my Golden Retriever makes when we have to drag her away from the water :)

. very close on the low water and went off ramp. he backed the trailer in crooked and went off the edge. lost axle. the leaf spring bolts made the marks on outer edge. granted the water is low and the ramp that doesnt have the curb is usually submerged but you can see he went off the side.

.

I'll buy that. spring bolts on the outside; front roller/supports inside that; in the very center the bottom of the rear cross piece (or hopefully not the hull). It makes more sense from the second picture.

Or low-intelligence alien's attempts at crop circles.

After careful consideration and a real close examination of the photos, its a the recovery of a huge beer cooler.

Wow, I was looking at the pictures and was thinking that looks like the ramp at Clinton Lake. Then I saw where you are from. I was there a few days after you posted this, never saw the damage though.
As for the water level, I was skiing and fell, I had to wave off my friend who was owing me from picking me up, this was because I was standing up a good distance from shore. He would have ran the lower unit into the sand bottom there with the boat not being on plane.

I completely buy that those marks were made from the describe incident, but how the heck do you pull the axle off your trailer? just pull and pull till something snaps? wish there was a pic of the trailer afterwards. wonder how they got that out of there.

Re: bonehead ramp mystery

it happens typically when the end of the ramp drops off, straight down. the trailer gets backed to the end and past it; the wheels fall down the face. When you drive forward, the wheels don't roll up the face; you leave them behind.

So if you ever drop a wheel over the end of a ramp, don't just try to yank it out of there.

There are lots of posts with techniques to raise the trailer.

There are lots more discussing why ramps get in that condition in the first place.

yikes, i've been lucky then thus far. many trips to the ramp and haven't encountered that. glad to see this thread so its on my mind!

Did see one of those motorized gate/pillars that sink into the ground raise right back up into someones motor while they were launching their boat though!

Wait, you mean ALL ramps don't have marks like that?

I thought those marks were made by two over weight slalom skiers being pulled into the water while holding onto their cooler?
