Re: Boats

Well here's the latest. Got the boat home from the marine shop. Took off the transom bar and lowered the engine so I could fit it in my garage. A couple of days later went out and when I tried the tilt the engine didn't move. Tried turning over the engine nothing happen. Figured the batteries were probably low. Went and bought a trickle charger. Hooked a battery up to the charger. After about 30 seconds the light came on and registered fully charged. After about another 30 seconds the needle would drop back into the charging area. Kept doing this all night. Fully charged then back into charging. So the next day I took them to my local battery store where they tested them and put a load on them. They both registerd good. Took the batteries back home and took off the caps. Every cell was empty. Filled them up with water and put them back on the charger. Still showed fully charged. Put them back in the boat. Still won't crank. Buying a new battery today in the hopes that that is what is wrong. Hope it's not anything to do with the wiring. And so my journey begins...

Mike

Boat dude, something doesn't make sense from the battery store.

I've never seen a battery check good under load with no water in it.

But I do agree with you, the batteries probably are bad, and it is good to start a new (to you anyway) boat with fresh batteries.

I would probably not buy them at the place that tested your old ones though.

Re: Boats

OK well I found that from tilting the motor down and turning the motor so I could fit the boat in my garage that it unplugged a wire. Plugged that back in and everything works fine. Took it to the water today. Wouldn't start. argh
Do all motors have a connection on them for hooking up a water hose so you can try and start it without it being in the water.
The engine would turn over but didn't sound like it was getting any spark. I know I flooded it out at first. Was my fault. Learned not to push the key in and hold it in while starting the boat. Ended uup thats the choke (I guess). Dumped tons of gas in there. So if anyone has tips on starting motorboats I would appreciate the help. I gots me a lot of learning to do. hehehe. Hey but the boat did float :)

Mike

Boat dude--you probably alraedy did this, but sometimes after a flooding you need to replace the spark plug. Elementary I know, but sometimes the simplist things I don't think of....good luck!
