Re: Boating aint easy!!! Summer prep!!

Live in Moorpark. Do piru and Castaic all the time. Plan on naci and Antonio too this season. Is Mohave worth the drive?

We do a Lake Mohave trip every year with a bunch of people from the guard base, Ive been doing it for the past 5yrs. I think its worth it...we stay at the colorado belle for about 4-5 nights and its really cheap. Also, we rent a slip, so every morning we just drive to Katherine Landing (10min drive) and hop on the boat and roll to our camp spot.

Im gonna try to make it to Naci as well.....Where at in Moorpark do you hail from?

DIY...lol....

If anyone needs some help on repacking trailer bearings/trailer help..or engine help.....let me know, cause Im doing everything on my own, and Im sure Im doing it right. Thanks too iBoats!!!

Hey just curious-how after do you repack your hubs? I do have the kind where grease gun attaches and squirts grease into it but that of course can't be the end all to it-I just bought my first boat so I'm new to all this.
Thanks!

Since its your first boat, you mind as well re-pack them, b/c who knows when the last owner redid them.

Just search for repacking bearings and you will get a ton of info. Its actually pretty simple to do.

Re: Boating aint easy!!! Summer prep!!

Right there with you Load. Second season with my boat. I just finished the last bottom coat on my hull tonight......3 weeks later. Stripped off old paint to gel coat (sanding till my arms bled), 5 coats of Interprotect, 3 coats of VC Performance Epoxy. Evenings, lunch hours and weekends. Time to dry, sanding, yada yada yada.

Still need to get it de-winterized, gimball bearing and impeller changed, new trim pump bracket, etc...

My wallet is about drained, but in a masochistic sort of way, the DIY element is satisfying. I could only imagine the wallet if I didn't do the labor myself. I know the painting project alone saved me $1000+ in labor.

Boating season 2010 here I come!

Re: Boating aint easy!!! Summer prep!!

I do most of my boating at Lake Mojave and I plan on going to Havasu this year (never been there). But if I wanna do a day trip or something simple Ill go to Piru or Castaic.....I wanna make it up to Lake Nacimento and Lake San Antonio this year as well. I try to use the boat as much as I can during the summer...but work is really bugging me!! LOL

Have you ever been to Powell? I grew up in Orange County and that was our (every other) summer vacation. Get a houseboat and get lost for about 7 days..nothing like it.

We did a houseboat trip on Mojave one year..but it was much different than Powell..much hotter and the lake and scenery doesn't even compare. Never been to Havasu, but I plan on going this summer.

Electric Buffer!!!!!!!

Those things are great. Cuts your work time by more than half. I have found that I can put the wax on better by hand but to get it off the buffer is the only way to go. You can wax more often doing it like that.

With boats it is always something. There is always a 300 dollar accesory or a 1000 dollar repair or a full day project that need/must/wants to be done.
I love the addiction!!! Better than drugs or booze.:D

Lols yeah, our local autoparts/hardware shop has 10" buffers on sale for half price. Gonna go get one today, although it looks like rain..so no waxing today.

Never been to powell, but I heard it was beautiful. I had a good friend of mine invite me last year on his houseboat (timeshare), but I didnt have the cash. But I think I will go this year with the lil lady.
