This is my first pre-summer as a boat owner, and let me tell you, its one thing after another! LOL! It started with getting new tires, then Im in the process of repacking the bearings (4 of em by the way!), changing tail-lights, impellers, changing motor oil, outdrive oil, fuel filter, charging batteries, inspecting gimbal bearings and Ujoints, on and on and on!!

Im trying to do everything right so I dont get stuck in the middle of the lake this summer. I figured I do all the pre-emptive maintinence so I dont have to replace an outdrive or trailer anytime soon! I hope its worth it (but im sure it will be!)

I keep telling myself it will be worth it when Im on the lake and enjoying the summer sun with no worries!!! Whos with me???!!!

Rant over!

It is worth it. I enjoy working on the boat and trailer.

Just think about how it will feel when you are out in the sun;)

You're not gonna find any sympathy here . . . we're all in on the on and on and on . . . Just be happy when your first and last day of the season go well. That part you got right :)

Better to spend the time doing that than waiting for a tow on the highway or on the lake.

I also enjoy working on that stuff, it really gives me something productive to do....plus if something goes wrong, its my fault lol........Id rather get mad at myself for doing something wrong than getting mad at someone else I PAID to do something wrong. I can only blame myself!!! :)

Bring on summer!!!

You got two choices:

Elbow grease or dig deep into the wallet.

I personally enjoy the DIY.

I really enjoy doing the work myself, it's trying to find the time that's frustrating.

I have done more getting ready and preventative maintenance stuff this year then in the last 10 years of having this boat. After 2 break downs last year on the water I wont be having it happen again haha

Re: Boating aint easy!!! Summer prep!!

The stuff never ends.

Fished the boat 6 days last week. Took 3 days off to catch up on the some before heading down for a 3 days offshore tournament this weekend. Went out last night to pull the cover off to get ready and the bilge pump light was on at the helm. Worst yet, no bilge pump running. Jumped out of the boat to run up to the house to get a voltmeter to trouble shoot the problem. Looked down and noticed grease on the inside of one of the hubs. Crawled underneath and find the seal was close to coming completely out of the hub. Jumped in the truck to run up and get a new seal and the check engine light comes on in the truck. What next?

The gods have spoken...

Go grab a case or two of beer and take the six days off to ponder life...in front of the tv.

Wife and I are dragging boat to St.Johns River in Florida tomorrow AM for a week on that beautiful waterway, then all this preparation, packing gear, screwing with boat and motor is very much worth it! Of course messing around with the boat/motor is half the fun for me...gotta do something in those cold, wet winter months! Have Fun!

Electric Buffer!!!!!!!

Those things are great. Cuts your work time by more than half. I have found that I can put the wax on better by hand but to get it off the buffer is the only way to go. You can wax more often doing it like that.

With boats it is always something. There is always a 300 dollar accesory or a 1000 dollar repair or a full day project that need/must/wants to be done.
I love the addiction!!! Better than drugs or booze.:D

I do most of my boating at Lake Mojave and I plan on going to Havasu this year (never been there). But if I wanna do a day trip or something simple Ill go to Piru or Castaic.....I wanna make it up to Lake Nacimento and Lake San Antonio this year as well. I try to use the boat as much as I can during the summer...but work is really bugging me!! LOL

I have OCD too. I think it comes from wanting to fish on the river at night in my case.

Live in Moorpark. Do piru and Castaic all the time. Plan on naci and Antonio too this season. Is Mohave worth the drive?
