I would agree with you only if we are talking ST series tires - that I feel are junk just for just this reason. Otherwise, any other tire type I'm aware of, are designed to be run on pressures according to load as specified in tire pressure charts, Not the max shown on the sidewall, unless the load is max rated for the tires.

Another 50 years of towing experience, with never a failure of any kind (tires or bearings). 20 of those 50 years spent as a service manager at a larger Detroit metro RV dealer.

On the subject of types of tires....when I switched from bias ply to radials, the feedback from the trailer became smooth like a cushion. My old bias were harsh and bouncy.

I second this. My radials are SO much better in this regard. The trailer still bounces a bit (I think that's unavoidable on a single axle trailer), but it is very noticeable better with radials.

My first trailer had shocks plus 2 coil springs on each side. Best riding trailer i ever had.

I have upgraded a trailer to enable carrying a heavy load in the boat (camping gear, etc.). It ran fine at the loaded weight but bounced like a bronco when unloaded.

My guess is that the OP's trailer is rated for more weight than he carries.
