Jack stands. I don't see them on iboats, only trailer jack stands. You can buy boat jack stands, or you can make your own blocks. Just make sure they're well padded and hold the angles of the hull solidly while holding firmly with no rocking on the ground.

Throw a few tires on the ground. Not the best but the least expensive. How high does it need to be? As said Jack Stands and wood blocks.

It actually does matter how high it needs to be. The outdrive or OB should really be stored in the down position, particularly if it's being stored in a region prone to freezing. So the boat needs to be high enough to leave a few inches of clearance underneath the drive/OB.

Jack stands are the most common. Crib Frames can be built, but are tough to move and store. Cinder blocks can be used with a piece of wood on top. This is better if stored on a paved surface. If the boat is beign stored on the ground (dirt) and the ground freezes, in the spring as the area thaws the blocks can sink into the soft ground and shift. (before we get 20 pics of guy swho store on blocks on the ground, it doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it is an increased risk) Jack stands chained together are the safest way to go. If the jack stands are being stored on a dirt ground, put a piece of plywood under each jack stand.

Re: boat storing

different hulls have different stress points for storage (including on a trailer). A whaler want to be on rollers under the keel and not the flat parts; a Carolina Skiff cannot sit on rollers, but has to be on flat bunks.

Of course this is all driven by hull size design and weight. a 14' aluminum flat bottom jon can be stored anywhere--including upside down for a doghouse!

And of course the best option: floating!

Very true and a good point. Whether you use Jack Stands, a Crib, or blocks you would still use wooden cribbing along the keel. This is what actually supports the weight of the boat. The stands, regardless of the material are there to keep the boat from tipping over.

Not enough info here. How big's the boat? What type? How are you getting it to its 'resting place'?

Back when i bought my 21' Pro-Line, the service that transported it to my home told me how many cement blocks to get, and how many pieces / what sized lumber to buy. He towed it to the house and blocked it in my driveway. I recall the cost being about $250. including the 20-mile haul.

When someone asks for the make/model of your boat, or more info, it's because they want to help. They're asking for specific info so they can give you the most complete and accurate info possible. 2 different replies asked for specific info, and you've provided none. I'm not trying to lecture you, and please don't take this the wrong way; but you're the one asking for help. We want to help you. When you are unresponsive to information gathering, how can you expect anyone to help you?
Have you noticed some of our signatures? Basic pertinent information automatically supplied. If you don't know the info being requested, post some photos... Please do that anyway. Let us know if you've acquired an unknown boat. That's OK, too; you'll just get more requests for more specific info. Please, help us to better help you.

Jack Stands, or Cinder Blocks or a crib. I think that question has been addressed. Do you have specific questions about dry boat storage using one of these methods? What we'd need to know is:

1) What type of boat?

2) Boat's Length?

3) Boat's Beam?

4) Is it being stored on pavement or dirt/grass?

Re: boat storing

in that case, you can't hurt it sitting on the ground as long as it drains. Or flip it over, but prop up the windshields.

Re: boat storing

If anyone stumbles upon this thread, I had the thought of building a cradle for mine. I need to get my boat off the trailer to sand blast, repaint, and replace the wooden bunks. I planned to make a boxed frame out of 2X6's and make the box about 9ft long by about 5ft wide. I plan to use 1000 lbs trailer jacks

image_841.jpg
Although my boat is like 1200 at most, these jacks can be overloaded about 200-250 pounds over their rated capacity before failure. But keep in mind out of the 4 I will use, each jack only carry a 1/4 of the total weight anyway. (as long as they are adjusted level.) This will make it easy to match the trailers height for loading and unloading. Also the folding feature will make it easier to store upright against a wall when not needed and easy to move when the boat is on it on a paved surface. If you do not need to ever roll it around you could use footed jacks or built on wooden legs.
This is simple to make and I really can't tell you how to make your frame (if you plan on making one) Because as stated by a few in this thread, different boat hull types need different support types. Mine is a 76' Skeeter Hawk Bass boat. boat.jpg

The trailer for it has 4 rollers for the keel chine, about 3ft long inline roller bunks just inside the 2 outer stringer chines and 4ft long wood bunks just outside the stringers. So that tells me for this boat would not be a good idea to convert the trailer to all rollers. Really all Ive seen with rollers has a widthy beam, my boat is only about 55 inches at the bottom of the gunwales. So take into consideration of how your boat is supported on the trailer and emulate that.

Re: boat storing

maybe for a small boat but those trailer jacks can get right wobbly. I'd worry the whoel rig might tip over sideways

Re: boat storing

Out of experience, yes I do realize these jacks can wobble. I would never move the boat on this with them extended or on an unlevel surface. Of course in thinking about this further, I only have hard packed aggregate to work on under my carport. I need something more temporary anyway, as I won't be needing it that often or for very long at a time.
