boat questions

my aunt gave me her 15' or 16' mirocraft. older boat but not to shabby, motor is strong and it was kept in a garage. she does not have a title for it and the last time that it was on the water was about 10 or 12 yrs ago. How can i get a title for it to show that i own it and get new tags for it? i believe the old numbers are on it. can i go there with that and maybe a written letter signed by her saying it is mine? oh and im from upper michigan.thanks

Check with the SOS, there is a minimum length in MI for a title, you might just need to register the boat. My 14' wooden with 20hp is not titled in MI, but was when I built it in TX.
