boat painting

hello all I just bought and older 1971 wellcraft that is in great shape but I would like to paint it a dark blue. Is there anything special i need to do to the original color before i paint it. It is white now

wash, sand lightly. wash.

wash.. wipe down with xylene... sand lightly..... wash.
