With the proper prep it might work. But the sheen level will dull out a lot faster than a marine based paint.

You can add automotive hardner to the rustoleum and it will not dull as fast.

I used the Krylon farm and implement on sale at mardens for 99 cent's a can on my old lund..Prep work is the key.. When you think you have done enough sanding, do more. Here are a couple of links to what i did.. Didn't turn out bad at all. Still looks like this after 2 years.

I used rustoleum on the inside of my boat,it dulled quickly and scratches easily. I used an automotive synthetic epoxy on the outside and I highly recommend it. It is very hard/scratch resistent and cost effective(I think about $65/Gal) The one I used was a dupont/Nason product. Good Luck.
