78 model ebbtide with 140 mercruiser outdrive knocks or rattles when you turn left or right hard. I m also looking for manual or book recommended by knowledgeable boaters about out drives.

Start with the gimble bearing.
Don't buy aftermarket manuals, you'll regret it.

U-joints,Gimble bearing or who knows.Pull the drive and inspect before it flies apart and destroys things.Better to find it now than wait until it causes expensive damage..
