My boat (16' Crestliner tinnie) was originally a console steer from the factory. I got a copy of the spec from Crestliner. It had a max rating of 50hp.

At some point in time, someone removed the console, making it a tiller steer.
My question is how much does that affect the max hp rating?

There is another model that appears to be very similar to my original boat.
I listed the specs below for comparison.

Note: On the Similar boat, console steer was an option. So I'm assuming that's the reason for the 35 max rating? Also, a 20" transom was available. My boat had storage and a nice cushion pedestal chair, which accounts for some additional weight.

Similar boat
beam = 64-1/2"
length = 16' 1"
depth = 29-1/2"
Transom = (15") (20")
Max hp = (30) (35)
weight = 250 lbs.
Max weight capacity = 935 lbs.
Aluminum thickness:
Transom = .080
Bottom = .063
sides = ?

My boat:
beam = 64-1/2"
length = 16' 1"
depth = 29-1/4"
Transom = 20"
Max hp = 50
weight = 400 lbs.
Max weight capacity = 1115 lbs.
Aluminum thickness:
Transom = .080
Bottom = .063
sides = .063

Now, I think my max hp should be reduced, but how much?
Going from a max hp of 50 down to 30 doesn't seem right?
My guess would be 35 or 40?

Re: boat max hp rating?

Tiller Max HP = 45, sounds ok.
Remote Max HP = 80 ?

TD,
the tiller number seems reasonable.

Thanks.
