Mary I really do not know much about deck boats. On V hull usually right in the center amidship. When you get cover off should see tank, fuel line Gauge and wires. Since your is more like a pondtoon could be on either side. If it is on a side I would expect it to be same side you fill tank from and about even with fill cap.

Thanks. The one I'm envisioning is amidships, abit more aft than fore. I will check it out this weekend when I am back at the boat.<br />Thanks again to EVERYONE for the sage advice. <br /><br />I am sure next week upon my return, I'll have more questions and hopefully some small success stories. Mare,<br /><br />Was your tank FULL when you took delivery? You may still be pretty close to that. It is conceivable that you have only used 5-10 gallons.<br /><br />Sometimes, fuel sending units in boat tanks are biased toward reading toward full or empty. It all depends on which end of the tank the sender is in. Typically, in floor tanks are long and somewhat shallow. If the sender is toward the front of the tank, it will tend to read pessimistic. If it is toward the rear, it will tend to read optimistic because-most boats are lower toward the stern.<br /><br />You should have two or three deck plates that provide access to the tank. One will be for the fill and vent connections. Another for the guage connection-here is also where you will find the manual guage. And another for the engine feed connection.<br /><br />Pry up the deck plates and have a look. Not a bad idea to do this periodically anyway to check for fuel system integrity.<br /><br />Sounds like you're getting the hang of it!! :D

DJOHNS<br />Yes, the dealer filled it nearly up ( a tad less than 45 gals) the night he delivered it.<br />I have approx 5-6 hrs on it, at roughly 4500 rpms. The F100 Yamaha literature I scraped up said that based on past perf, I should be at about half full (about 4 gals an hour).<br />Godfrey (the mfr) sent me a box full of fixes for warranty problems this evening, but I am so green, I havent a clue what goes with what, other than the dock light. It is possible one of the gizmos is a fuel guage, but I wouldnt know it to see it, until I get everything back up to the boat and start comparing parts. <br />This is going to be a very educational summer!<br />Mare

Mare,<br /><br />It truly is a shame that the dealer is running you around like this.<br /><br />Do you have a digital camera? If so, take some pictures of the goodies that Godfrey sent you and we'll help you out.<br /><br />Did you find some deck plates in the floor?

What sort of dealer just sends you the parts with no question of wether you know what to do with them or not???<br /><br />thats low..<br /><br />see if you can follow the fuel line from the outboard, that will at least tell you the rough direction the tank is in.. <br /><br />If you find the tank, you will see a sender unit on it (usually a round disk bolted all around the outside to the tank,, it will have a wire going to it from the dashboard..<br /><br />if you ground that wire (touch it to something that is earthed or negative), your guage should swing right over to full.. take it off and it should drop to empty.<br /><br />If it does that, your guage is probably fine and the problem is likely the sender unit, (if there is a problem as per the above postings.)<br /><br />Its possible the float is stuck.. give the tank a thump near the sender unit and see if it helps. (not exactly a techy fix, but I've seen it work.)<br /><br />As mentioned, if you can take pics and post them, of the parts, we can help you out.<br /><br />If you can take the photos, but have nowhere to put them online, email them to me on frankieh@iinet.net.au and I'll put them on my server for you and post them on here. (or show you how to.)<br /><br />we are a remarkable woman, jumped in with both feet and having a great time and learning, wish their were more like you.<br /><br />Don't let the dealers walk over you, your the customer, your always right, (thats the theory anyway).. there are legal recouses for dealing with dealers that don't fulfil their obligations, and sometimes just reminding them of that can help.<br /><br />regards<br /><br />Frank

Hey guys<br />I called the mfr today and asked for an explanation. The gizmo I didnt understand was indeed a fuel sending unit...? A round black disk, with 5 screws spaced thru it, a wire extending off the top, and a stick down the middle, about 4 inches long. He said he didnt expect me to do the work -- just take the parts to the Hurricane dealer near the boat (not the one I bought from, unfortunately) and the mfr would make the dealer whole once they took care of me.<br /><br />as it happens, I should have paid the extra 5 grand North Bay in Del wanted and stayed close to home, the Penna dealer has a history of lowballing and giving lousy service. I also think they dont get many women who want to know everything about everything. <br /><br />Maybe you guys dont ask as many dumb questions as I do, so I wore out my welcome. But I still paid them $21,000 plus a trade-in worth another $5k. Live and learn.<br /><br />But I'll take a raincheck for future issues, as far as popping a pic of the part onto the web.<br /><br />DJ - I havent been back to the boat yet -- I go thurs nite. But I am sure the deck plate I keep loosening near the helm is the gas gauge I just havent explored much yet (only had it since may 6, and been up twice to delaware. I would go every wkend if I could but I go when I can.) <br /><br />Frank - I am plucky because being on the water has always captivated me... the serenity, the sound, the smell... ok, so it is usually crowded and crazy too, but I decided to let fly and jump in.
