I have an 86 grumman aluminum fishing boat. The boat was dragged on the boat ramp and it damaged the drain hole. it bent the drain and it no longer is completely round to accept the drain plug. The plug will go in about 3/4 inch until it hits the damaged part. This creates a leak due to the plug not being completely inserted. Is there a tool that can be inserted into the drain to expand it back to original dimentions? Pipe expander? I thought about taking it to a machine shop but it seems simple enough to do if I can find such a tool.

It's aluminum and therefore a fairly soft and malleable metal. I'd think but don't know for sure that a 3/4" or 1" whichever fits the diameter of the tube piece of oak dowel driven into the tube might persuade it back into a reasonable facsimile of it's former self. Or a Bolt with some duct tape wrapped around it. That's what I'd try anyway.;)

You can also try some regular sockets...start with one that almost fits the damaged part, grease it a bit to make it easier to insert without galling the aluminum and tap it in until it expands the hole...if possible, tap around the outside of the opening with the socket inserted, this will help reshape it...continue with the next larger sizes until you get it back to its original inside diameter...if it is a threaded type, you might end up damaging the threads and have to go with a rubber expansion type plug...
Good Luck!
