Boat consoles?

Why aren't boat consoles set on the left side of a boat like US cars?

Good question...I'm going to predict that JB will have a reasonable explanation for this one.

I think it's because people like to dock their boats on the port side...keeps the console out of the way when stepping in/out of the boat...maybe

Prop torque tends to lift the starboard side, so by putting the helm there torque list is partially compensated.
