Boat Burining Video....have question.....help!

This boat caught on fire this week outside of our building. We posted our vidoe to share. We were amazed and wanted to know why the boat had no sprinkler system to stop the fire. I mean this was a pretty nice boat.

Does anybody know the safety rules regarding sprinkler systems and boats? or where i can learn more....

Sprinkler systems are only effective in enclosed rooms. The spray keeps inside temperatures from rising to the point of burning. Most boat fires like that are caused by explosive vapors built-up in the bilge, sparked by an electrical component. Most likely somebody didn't use the bilge blower(s) before starting and it blew. No sprinkler system is going to prevent a fire from such a severe explosion, enclosed room or not.

there are fire extinguisher systems, available, usually just in the engine compartment, also very expensive. also, just speculating, this looks like a fuel leak fire. where gas leaks from the tank and gets into the bilge, the engine compartment extinguisher, would be of little help.

I think those are usually Halon systems. Definitely not sprinklers.

I get two things from that video. 1) I question the skill of the owner as she is tied very loosely, just seems like an indicator to me. 2) Just like a typical (not all) PWC operator to come spinning in there to see how he can mess everything up . . . "Hey guys, can I help? Oh, ooh, that's hot . . . "

I seem to remember something about the Halon systems being obsolete,......
Something about the Halon itself being a Real Bad thing for the Ozone,+ All.......

geeezzz.......wouldn't ya think someone thought of jumping in the water, pulls the plug let the sob sink. that oughta put out the fire but probably polluted the water with spilled fuel...
