Re: Boat building question
Just ask a mod to combine the threads. Pick which thread title you prefer & have them make it the primary, and add the other to it........

Fiberglass boat build[/h]
As noted in the thread above, you probably need to apply gelcoat to the mold (after it's prepped), if it's a mold to produce gelcoat covered boats, and add the correct layers of glass into the mold. Once cured you pull a boat out of the mold.
Is it a BOAT mold or the HULL of a boat mold. It may only be the lower half of a boat, from the rubrail down (roughly depending on the style of boat) or it could be any number of boats that are produced w/ only the hull being made in a mold. What other structure does a boat made in this mold require? Stringers, bulkheads, deck, flotation foam, built in seats or storage bins that add to the structural integrity of the hull........
What types of glass, what weight of glass, what order they are laid into the mold, how many total layers of glass would all be part of the fiberglass 'layup schedule'. The layup schedule & the structure questions above would be on a
blueprint of sorts as Bondo suggested.
W/ out pix of the mold, it'll be hard to recommend a glass layup schedule or figure out what else a boat made in this mold would require.
If you knew that boat maker the mold originally came from, you might be able to find an example of a previously made boat & reverse engineer how it was built..................
