Well, life happened so its been 18 months or so since my last work on the 76 Sea Ray restoration. The weather is nice so I decided to pull the trailer for repaint (outside) and to refinish the bottom of the boat. Fortunately I have an air conditioned shop and nice flat concrete floor. I used crib blocks that I built for car work and managed to get some foam blocks to go on top of those. I cut the foam to conform to the chines in the back and keel along the bottom.
I started by putting car dollys under each trailer wheel so I could make sure the trailer was aligned and centered in my garage door to pull it straight out. I then lifted the transom using a chain hoist on each side of my gantry crane hooked to the transom tie fittings just enough to get it off the rollers and to settle it on the stern blocking. Keep in mind the boat is stripped except for the new stringers and floor so it is as light as possible. I then moved the gantry crane to the front and lifted the bow by the bow eye. You can see in the pic how I slung it between the two chain hoists. Note: if you do this method, you have to raise and lower the chain hoists evenly or the bow wants to swing to either side as you bring it up. I then jacked up the axles and removed the car dollys lowering the trailer for good bunk and roller clearance. As I rolled the trailer out I fit and placed a block amidships under the keel and then another one essentially under the bow.
From a tip on the internet about foam blocks, I picked up these at Tractor Supply. You have to talk to their receiving person since these packing blocks are removed when they receive their crated trailers and are usually thrown away. I managed to get about 25 of them. Nice to have extras.
Here's the pics.....
