blue or black switch box

hi is there a difference between the blue and black igntion systems to a force 85hp 87 model?????

I've heard there is a difference. Can't remember what it was at the moment. Have read that you can have a black CD box on one bank as long as you use black coils to match and a blue CD box on the other as long as the coils are blue.
Sure someone will come along who knows the facts better than I before to long!
