So I just made a Bloody Mary, and am wondering what things some of you use to garnish it with. I am looking for some new ideas. Heres what I do now:

1. Always mix with Vodka
2. Tabasco sauce
4. Pickle
5. Diced pepercini (little pepper)
6. Green onion
7. Beef Jerky

I have heard of horshraddish, was thinking about that. I have had it with shrimp before as well.

Re: Bloody Mary

Oh, must have a little horseradish and lots of Worcestershire. Bloody Marys are a favorite of ours. Although a celery stalk is the most common garnish, our little twist is a stalk of pickled asparagus. Awesome. I like the green onion idea. No idea why I haven't thought to try that as I love them with a little salt.

Also try what I call a Caesar. This is a Mary made with Clamato instead of Tomato juice and the glass is rimmed with Celery salt.

Another nice garnish is a couple of those large spanish olives. You can even find some stuffed with things such as garlic, or jalepenos. Yum! As a non-drinker that's one drink I can still have, just no vodka. Yum! Enjoy!
Bassy

Re: Bloody Mary

QC I'm with you but when you garnish with asparagus try a dash of celery salt for flavor. (I have never tried the asparagus but when I garnish with anything but celery I add a dash of celery salt) This thread is making me thirsty maybe tomorrow while cooking the turkey (with Boom's brine ) I'll have a bloody

Re: Bloody Mary

I always make mine from scratch and have received a lot of compliments on my recipe. QC has most of my ingredients covered. Definitely use the horseradish, just not too much. Some are hotter than others. Another ingredient to try is steak sauce. I usually use A-1 Bold and Spicy. Adds a "richness" to it. I also use 1 small lime wedge squeezed into the drink, and a small amount of pickle juice.

Re: Bloody Mary

I use spicy V8 as a mixer, garnish with a sprig of celery.

I sometimes substitute the eastern European liquor, Kummel (pronounced kimmel) for the vodka. It is caraway flavored with a powerful punch. I call that a Bloody Olga. :)

Re: Bloody Mary

Pony,
I usually take the bottle of Lea & Perrins and turn it completely upside down over the glass and shake 3 times. I'm not sure how much it actually is. I never measure. I'd guess a good tablespoon or so for a large glass.

i used to mix my own all the time, until i found a great premix. 'major peters bold and spicy'. just add ice and vodka. more time for drinking.

we go with bloody mary's from 8-10am every morning we tailgate, then switch to beer.

Re: Bloody Mary

You can also substitue the celery stalk - or augment it - with a southern-style spicy pickled green bean or two.

I don't measure amounts, but I use
horseradish
black pepper
Old Bay or Zatarain's seasoning
Worcestershire
Tabasco
celery seed
V8
fresh lemon juice
lemon wedge
Celery or green bean
vodka to taste. . .

This is the drink of choice while camping, and the sun is up

There's a really good premix out of either maryland or Virginia called "Stingray" - it is so thick that you have to let the ice melt to get the last of it out of your glass! Thick & chunky, almost like soup...

Re: Bloody Mary

The premix I use is "Mr and Mrs T's Bold and Spicy"

I notice on the mix, it always says to mix with vodka, gin or rum. Does anyone mix with anything other that vodka?

I especially like to have a bloody mary when tailgating as Mattttttt said, but while im bowling in a Sunday morning tournement is also good. After work tonight I'm gonna try the worcestershire sauce and some horshraddish.

Re: Bloody Mary

Use the Worcestershire as you would salt, by taste. I love it, and use it pretty liberally. When I order a Mary at a bar I always ask for extra Worcestershire and often just ask for the bottle . . . ;) The Brits often add it to plain tomato juice at breakfast, and of course that works for me . . .

Also, some have mentioned the salt rim. Whether it is onion salt, celery salt or just plain salt, I definitely prefer mine with something on the rim.

I am tempted to try tequila as the Mexicans actually chase fine tequila with a sip of something they call Sangrita (not sangria). It is VERY similar to Mary mix and is a perfect match to good tequila. BTW, they don't "shoot" the good stuff.

That's true about the good stuff. Had an opportunity to sample some of Mexico's finest a while back. It was served neat, and was smooth as silk.
