Block sealer would it work???

i have a 70 merc 650 four cycle..i'm getting a little water in the two lower cylinders...i run the engine a while and then it starts running fine..my question is, could i fill a trash can and run block sealer in it to seal it up??? ie kw block sealeant,bar leaks..etc thanks Erik

Hey Erik I know you don't want to hear this but block sealer or bars leak is not the way to go. If you're getting water in your two bottom cylinders then you have a problem that needs attention. You could have a cracked block or a blown gasket, either way block sealer would be no more than a band-aid fix. The best way to fix it is the right way. Someone once said:"Why is there no time to do it right the first time, but we always have time to do it again".

Did Merc make a 4 stroke in 1970?

As far as I know they never made a 4 cycle in that era, but did make four cylinder motors that sometimes dribble water out at the base of spark plugs.

How are you determining that water is in the cylinders?

The 650 would be a 3 cylinder wouldn't it?

I do not think 3 cyclinder motors came into play till the mid/late 80's even if that early.

Count the spark plugs, or wires.

Perhaps if one would look towards the forward section of the motor just below the powerhead and just above/between the transom clamps, and if you wipe away the grease, you may see a plate/tag that tells what model it might be, and provide a serial number that can help point to the year model.

Mercury built a 4 cly 65 HP in & about then. If you are getting water in the clyinders on that old of an engine it could be several things. Inner water jacket gasket on the exhaust could be leaking or the jacket could have had a hole come in it. Powerhead mounting gasket leaking water into exhaust area. Or worst, a cracked block.

this is a 2 stroke 4 cylinder 70 merc...i look at the spark plugs and exhaust and theres water gettting into the two lowest clyinders.. i was thinking of filling a tub with water and block sealer and seeing if that would help
