Re: Bleeding brakes

Just don't let the master cylinder run dry or you suck air into the system and get to start all over again. Hand vacuum pumps look like the small hand held grease guns that take the small tubes of grease. They are usually white plastic and sell for 25 bucks or so. Gravity works, but can in certain situations result in an air bubble being introduced.

Re: Bleeding brakes

Of course I start with pulling the pads, find out why pad one one side is more worn than the other, etc.
The Caliper is no longer Free-Floating.......It's Frozen,+ needs Replacing........
That's the Only reason that pads wear unevenly........

Re: Bleeding brakes

If you vacuum or gravity bleed your trailer brakes, wouldn't you still want to check the actuator for proper operation when you were finished?

I use the 'One man bleeder'

and the procedure that was outlined in your link...w/ safety chains and 2X4.

This way I can see/feel that everything is working/adjusted properly.

I think I read somewhere that unless you physically pumped the actuator you might not be able to purge all the air in the system...although maybe that was for a specific brand of master cylinder?

-------Nick in Spartanburg, SC-------
