I think it will still look like a '77 bayliner.sorry. I hope it runs good for you and you enjoy it.
I would put NOS or turbo decals on it.:D

I personally love any motor that's not painted black... Makes the oil leaks easier to pinpoint...

That being said... Instead of spending 4.99 a can on spray bombs to change the color. Spend 5 bucks a can on anti-corrosion spray and hose down the motor once or twice a year... or once a month if its gonna be in salt. The oily waxy finnish will love you for it.

Re: Bland looking engine

Acquired a '77 Bayliner Admiralty in June, and after some growing pains and getting to know each other, she is healthy and ready to go next summer. I will be adding some bells and whistles over time, but one thing I would like to improve right away is the appearance of the engine (302 Ford). The previous owner went crazy with a black spray bomb, and quite frankly, it looks like a turd. Can I simply use an automotive dress up kit (valve covers, breathers, maybe an intake manifold, etc), or should I use (if available) a specific marine Mercruiser kit? Have been looking online for such a kit, but haven't found one...
Can anyone give me some tips/ideas/links?
Thanks in advance

Wow! its amazing how a thread can evolve! I wasn't looking for any performance improvements, I'm happy with her performance. I wasn't disagreeing with Mercruiser and their reasons for a black engine, and no, I didn't think Mercruiser had to keep me happy. I wasn't planning on painting it with a spray bomb, the previous owner did! He did a bad job (hoses and everything), and now I'm looking to clean it up under there! "Skargo", your engine looks great! You went with the "stock" look, and thats cool. We have long winters up here, so it is tough to dedicate a lot of time detailing when we are looking at a 4 - 5 month boating season. I take pride in the boat, and feel that it should both perform well AND look good inside and out. I'll take my own shot at it and post some pics when I'm done.
Cheers!

Take your time and make it pretty. You know what's under the engine cover, that's what counts.

Very nice WIZE ONE and BOND-O! I'm dealing with fresh water, so I might be able to chrome it up a bit, but if my motor ended up looking like either of yours I would be very happy indeed!
