First the boat specs,

1971 65 hp Thunderbolt Outboard motor, 4 cyld, uses mixed fuel (50:1), gets used every other weekend.

Today I looked at the boat and saw an oil stain on the ground under the skeg. I store the motor fully lowered. The oil is coming from exterior of the prop where it meets the lower unit.

The oil is very black, and not viscous like lower unit oil, it is jet black. Could this mean that I have been mixing the fuel to rich and this is just exhaust junk? The oil is not coming from inside the proper where the nut is, it is from the exterior.

Any thoughts?

It's just gassy/oily 'gunk' from the motor, these aren't exactly emissions-certified, eh?

You may benefit from a tuneup and/or carb adjustment if the idle mix is a bit rich, also a decarbonization using Seafoam or equivalent might help.

Here's some info on the decarbonization procedure:
